My name is Jamie, and I am an alcoholic with 19 months clean. I came to TMTL after serving a year and a half in prison. I came to TMTL July 1st, 2021, and I have accomplished more in the last four months than I had in my twenty-seven years in addiction. I recently lost my mom; she had an infection that caused her to go into septic shock and multi-organ failure. I went from thinking I was bringing my mom home after a round of antibiotics, to being told my mom is dying and in severe pain. I was told they could transport her to another hospital for surgery but the likelihood of her surviving the transport was slim. Also, if she survived the transport, she would not survive surgery. I was the person who had to make the choice to end my mom’s suffering. That was by far the hardest decision I have ever made. Myself and my family said our goodbyes and watched as my mom, my rock, my biggest supporter, my best friend, took her last breath at 9:50pm October 1st, 2021. That was the hardest thing I have ever done. I lost my mom, but I gained an angel. My mom was/is so proud of how far I have come. My mom was genuinely happy that I came to TMTL. She was grateful that I was somewhere safe and living sober. I made my mom proud before she passed away, and for that I am truly grateful.
